Repair Cafe Newsletter

An update from the umbrella Repair Café organisation:

Lately, making repairs has garnered some attention! Could it be because of the global crisis and rapidly rising prices? Or are more and more people discovering how fun and valuable it is to repair broken objects? Whatever the cause: the more than 2,500 Repair Cafés worldwide have been quite busy in recent months.

Thousands of repair guides More and more people are starting to make repairs themselves. Naturally, we applaud that at Repair Café International. That is why we work together with iFixit. This repair platform offers thousands of step-by-step guides for repairing various products. You can find all these manuals on our website.

Toolkits with repair tools

iFixit also offers toolkits with tools that come in handy when making repairs. Until 19 December, you can buy these with an extra discount. In addition, iFixit will donate 1 euro to Repair Café International for every product sold during this period. This support will enable us to continue spreading the Repair Café concept and supporting existing Repair Cafés.

Online glue tutorials Other partners are also supporting us with donations and with their expertise. For example, our glue partner Bolton Adhesives (of glue brands Bison, UHU and Bostik) is considering organising online glue tutorials for Repair Cafés volunteers and visitors in 2023. During these sessions, they will explain the basics of adhesives. You will learn which product to use for what and how to do it. We will keep you informed about the plans in our newsletter.

Teaching more people how to repair

And did you know that Repair Café International is also trying to teach more people how to repair? For instance, we offer a teaching package for organising repair lessons in primary schools. We also inform our network about other educational initiatives, such as the teaching materials by the American project Culture of Repair.

the Repair Café International team
